Can you connect Perilex yourself?

Perilex is a special type of plug that is used for power applications. Perilex is suitable for heavier electrical appliances that consume more power, such as hobs and ovens. It is possible to connect Perilex yourself, in this article we explain step by step how to do this. If you are still not sure how to tackle this job, call in a professional. Better save then sorry!

What is Perilex?

Perilex connections include Perilex sockets and plugs, power current or cooking groups/ovens. Cooking zones quickly consume more than 16A, causing overload and switching off the group switch.

Application Perilex

If you want to cook on induction or ceramic, you need to use a Perilex system. These types of hobs consume a lot of electricity and therefore cannot be connected to a standard group in the fuse box. One group can supply a maximum power of 3,680 Watts (230V x 16A). The total of all cooking zones of an induction hob together quickly consume 6,000 to 7,400 Watts. If a Perilex system is used to connect a hob, a Perilex plug and a Perilex wall socket are required. A Perilex can be connected to a 'stove group', with a stove group 2 groups in the meter box are combined. This gives you access to 2 x 16A = 7,360 Watts. With a 3-phase cooking group you get 3 x 16A = 11,040 Watts at your disposal.

What is three-phase current?

Power current is a type of connection that has more power than a standard electricity connection. Perilex is suitable for use with power current. These are connections for devices with a 3-phase connection (3 x 230V at 25A or higher). With a 3 x 230V connection, 400V is shown between the phases. A 3-phase connection is required for power current. Nowadays, most homes have a 3-phase connection.

Types of Perilex

Perilex is available in a 16A and 25A version. In home situations it is common to use a 16A version. The plug contact of the earth is a flat, horizontal pin in a Perilex 16A wall socket. In the 25A wall socket version this is a vertical pin. The differences can be seen below.

Safety

Before you start work, make sure that everything is voltage-free by switching the circuit breaker. You can only perform work on the Perilex with the right tools. For this job, you will need a Perilex socket, Perilex connection wire, stripping pliers and a screwdriver.

Later in this article, we will go through the installation work step by step.

Connecting a Perilex plug

It is common that there is only a wire on the device and that the plug still needs to be connected to the device. Check the manual of the device to be connected to connect the Perilex plug. The connection symbols can differ between brands.

Perilex connection with 2 x 1 phase and 2 x neutral connection

The Perilex system is connected with 2.5 mm² connection wire. Use the following tables and image to connect a Perilex 1 phase system with the wall socket and the meter cupboard:

Connect Perilex 3-phase + neutral

If you want to connect a 3-phase Perilex system, you must take into account that the phase wires can have different colours than with a 1-phase Perilex system. There is 230V between the phase wires (L1, L2 and L3) and neutral (N). But there is 400V between the phases themselves (i.e. between L1 and L2, between L2 and L3 and between L1 and L3)!
